This dress was meticulously crafted for attending a Ghost concert, drawing inspiration from the lead singer's character, Papa Emeritus IV. To replicate the intricate fabric and embroidery of the original costume, I embarked on a multi-step creative process involving screen printing, sewing, and hand beading.
Firstly, I designed custom screens for screen printing, ensuring the fabric mirrored the elaborate details of Papa Emeritus IV's attire. Using Adobe Illustrator, I created precise SVG files, which were then cut out on heat transfer vinyl and applied to organza. These custom screens allowed me to apply fabric paint with precision, achieving the desired effect and authenticity.
Given the Victorian and Steampunk influences of the band's album released that year, I selected the Bella Noir pattern by McCall's to construct the dress. This pattern provided the perfect foundation for incorporating the rich colors and symbolic elements characteristic of Papa Emeritus IV's costume. The dress prominently features these hues and symbols, capturing the essence of the character while adding a unique, personal touch.
To complete the ensemble, I crafted horns and a flower crown, paying homage to the band's lore and enhancing the overall theme. These accessories were thoughtfully designed to complement the dress, adding depth and narrative to the costume.
This project showcases my skills in screen printing, pattern drafting, and costume design, as well as my ability to blend historical influences with modern techniques. The final result is a striking, immersive costume that honors the character of Papa Emeritus IV and the rich lore of Ghost.
