Historically Inspired Tunic

Project Info:

This tunic and belt ensemble draws inspiration from historical Viking designs, specifically from the Jelling area, as featured in Albert Smith's book Viking Designs. I meticulously hand-embroidered the fabric before cutting and assembling the tunic, ensuring that every detail honored the traditional Viking aesthetic.

To create a harmonious and visually appealing outfit, I employed a tetradic color scheme that ties together the tunic, belt, and apron-style overdress. The intricate embroidery work showcases traditional Viking patterns, adding a layer of authenticity and historical reverence to the garment.

The belt is crafted using the ancient technique of tablet weaving, utilizing yarn to produce a sturdy and visually striking accessory that complements the tunic perfectly. This process not only enhances the overall historical accuracy but also provides a tangible connection to the craftsmanship of the Viking era.

This project allowed me to delve into historical textile arts, blending traditional techniques with my creative vision. The result is a unique and meaningful piece that pays homage to Viking heritage while showcasing my skills in embroidery and garment construction.
