From Passion to Pint: Brewer Matt Tweety's Journey to Mastery

Project Info:

In the third semester, I worked on a documentary-style group project about Tooth and Nail, a brewpub in Ottawa, and its owner, Matt Tweedy. The video delved into Matt's journey and brewing process. We had six weeks to complete it alongside other coursework and stayed ahead of schedule, impressing the professor with our progress.

I handled various production roles, including setting up the main camera, assisting with lighting, and capturing B-roll. Key highlights included achieving a shallow depth of field for the creative treatment and using strategic lighting to avoid reflections in the subject's glasses.

My primary role was creating motion graphics and animations. I designed our group’s logo and its animation, as well as graphics inspired by the brewery's vintage logos. I learned and applied new techniques in After Effects, syncing animations to key audio moments from the interview. For the credits, I created a template resembling beer bubbles and foam.

As the final editor, I color-graded footage to match different cameras and keyframed audio cuts. I added music to enhance the narrative, using two tracks: one for the interview and another for animations and credits. Challenges included managing timelines and unexpected disruptions, which I mitigated by working ahead and self-guided learning.

Overall, this project was a valuable learning experience, enhancing my skills in After Effects and motion graphics.
