Timeless Drift

Project Info:

For our Video Foundations final project, my partner and I created a John Hughes-style montage contrasting the 80s with the 2020s. This creative video, paired with an instructional one, ranged from one and a half to three minutes. We developed and pitched our idea, with me handling the production schedule, equipment list, budget, and shot list, while my partner created storyboards and soundscape. We sourced 80s-themed props from thrift stores to enhance authenticity.

Filming began with the ending sequence, showcasing my partner as an older character, necessitating precise scheduling to allow for his beard growth. We then filmed the remaining scenes after he shaved. I led the editing process, focusing on seamless transitions and color grading in Premiere Pro, while my partner created foley and music. A notable edit involved aligning misaligned shots to maintain continuity.

We opted for copyright-free music, although licensed tracks like "Don't You (Forget About Me)" would have enhanced the nostalgic feel. Planned radio clips highlighting modern issues were excluded but would have strengthened the contrast between eras. This project taught me the importance of advocating for my creative vision, and I plan to revisit it for further refinement.
